Will continue sending humanitarian aid to Palestinians’: India at UNSC on Israel-Hamas war

India Reaffirms Commitment to Humanitarian Aid for Palestinians and Advocates Two-State Solution at UNSC Meeting on Israel-Hamas Conflict

India’s Diplomatic Standpoint and Actions Amidst Ongoing Regional Strife

India, in a resolute declaration at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians affected by the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. Ambassador R Ravindra, India’s Deputy Permanent Representative (DPR) to the United Nations, reiterated India’s resolve to assist civilians in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the delivery of 38 tons of food and critical medical supplies, with a promise to continue these efforts.

The Statement at the UNSC:

Speaking at the UNSC session addressing the Israel-Hamas conflict, Ambassador R Ravindra stated, “We continue to support the Palestinian people through our bilateral development partnership, which covers a wide range of sectors including health, education, women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship, and information technology… In these challenging times, India will continue to send humanitarian assistance to the people of Palestine.”

India’s Recent Humanitarian Efforts:

On Sunday, India dispatched a military heavy lift aircraft loaded with approximately 6.5 tonnes of medical aid and 32 tonnes of disaster relief materials destined for Palestinians in need. These actions underscore India’s commitment to aiding Palestinians in the Gaza Strip during this protracted conflict.

Expressing Concern and Solidarity:

Ambassador Ravindra expressed deep concern about the deteriorating situation and the loss of civilian lives due to the ongoing conflict. He particularly denounced the October 7 terror attacks in Israel, stating, “The October 7 terror attacks in Israel were shocking, and we condemn them unequivocally.” He further highlighted that India’s Prime Minister was among the first global leaders to extend condolences for the loss of lives and offer prayers for the innocent victims and their families. India expressed solidarity with Israel during this challenging period.

A Call for Protecting Civilians:

In his statement, Ambassador Ravindra stressed the significance of safeguarding civilian lives, particularly women and children, as the conflict continues to take a toll on the innocent population. This appeal for the protection of civilians echoes a widely shared concern within the international community.

Advocating a Two-State Solution:

In addition to its humanitarian aid efforts, India also took the opportunity to call for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine issue. Ambassador Ravindra emphasized that “every effort must be made to create conducive conditions for the resumption of these talks.” This call aligns with longstanding international consensus that a peaceful resolution to the conflict requires the establishment of two separate states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side.

The Ongoing Conflict:

The Israel-Hamas conflict, which entered its 19th day on Wednesday, has resulted in a significant loss of life, with over 6,000 casualties on both sides. The conflict was initiated by unprecedented attacks by Hamas militants on October 7, which claimed the lives of at least 1,400 Israelis. On Tuesday, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reportedly announced their readiness to ‘invade’ Gaza, intensifying the situation further.

India’s stance at the UNSC underscores its commitment to providing humanitarian assistance and advocating for peace in the region during this tumultuous time. The call for a two-state solution echoes the global desire for a lasting and peaceful resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.
