
The Consulate General of India in Phuentsholing proudly commemorated the 75th Republic Day of India on the 26th of January, 2024, with a gathering of Indian and Bhutanese officials along with esteemed members of the community. This significant event brought together representatives from various sectors including IMTRAT, GREF, and the Indian community in Phuentsholing, Bhutan, alongside distinguished Bhutanese officials such as Dasho Karma Jurmi, Dungpa of Phuentsholing Dungkhag, Dasho Uttar Kumar Rai, Thrompon of Phuentsholing Thromde, Dasho Namgay Dorji, SSP of RBP DIV III Phuentsholing, Ms. Pema from the Executive Security of Phuentsholing Thromde, and other notable figures.
A highlight of the celebration was the presentation of khadar by Dasho Dungpa, Thrompon, and SSP to the Consul General, Shri. Prashant Das, in a gesture of honor and respect. The event saw an impressive turnout with over 100 attendees who graced the ceremony with their presence.
During the proceedings, the Consulate General of India conveyed the heartfelt message of the President of India, highlighting the nation’s remarkable journey of 75 years as a Republic. The President emphasized the profound significance of the constitution’s Preamble and India’s pivotal role as the “mother of democracy.”

In the evening, a Formal Dinner hosted by the CGI took place at the Druk Hotel in Phuentsholing, fostering camaraderie and goodwill among the guests. The delightful evening was further enhanced by the enchanting performance of the local musical group, Sunday Jam, who captivated the audience with patriotic and cultural melodies.
Mayor Uttar Kumar Rai of Phuentsholing expressed gratitude towards the Indian Government and its people for their unwavering support, acknowledging their instrumental role in the development of the region. He extended a heartfelt plea to leaders from Jaigaon, emphasizing the importance of collaboration to enhance the prosperity and attractiveness of both Phuentsholing and Jaigaon. Mayor Rai envisioned a shared future where the two cities evolve into premier economic hubs through concerted efforts and collective planning. He stressed the urgency of action, highlighting the abundance of opportunities that await through joint endeavors.
