BJP’s Historic Comeback in Delhi After 27 Years: PM Modi to Address Party Workers

New Delhi, February 8 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the Delhi Assembly elections after 27 years, ending the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) 10-year rule. According to the Election Commission, BJP has secured 40 seats and is leading in 8 more, comfortably crossing the majority mark of 36 in the 70-member Assembly.

This victory marks a major shift in Delhi’s political landscape, as the last time BJP ruled the national capital was from 1993 to 1998.

Key Election Results

One of the biggest battles was in the New Delhi constituency, where BJP leader Parvesh Sahib Singh defeated AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal by over 4,000 votes. Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit secured only 4,568 votes.

Other key results include:

  • Atishi (AAP) retained the Kalkaji seat, defeating BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by 3,500 votes.
  • Gopal Rai (AAP) won in Babarpur by a margin of 18,000 votes.
  • Kapil Mishra (BJP) won in Karawal Nagar, defeating AAP’s Manoj Kumar Tyagi.
  • Shikha Roy (BJP) secured victory in Greater Kailash, defeating AAP’s Saurabh Bharadwaj by 3,000 votes.
  • Kulwant Rana (BJP) won in Rithala, beating AAP’s Mohinder Goyal by 29,000 votes.

At BJP headquarters in Delhi, party workers celebrated the victory by waving saffron flags, bursting firecrackers, and chanting slogans in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

PM Modi to Address BJP Workers

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva confirmed that PM Modi will visit the BJP headquarters today to thank the people for their support.

“This victory shows Delhi’s faith in PM Modi’s leadership. It is a historic moment for us,” Sachdeva told ANI.

Kejriwal Accepts Defeat, Promises Constructive Opposition

Outgoing Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accepted AAP’s defeat and congratulated BJP.

“We respect the people’s decision. I congratulate BJP on their victory and hope they fulfill their promises,” Kejriwal said in a video message on X (formerly Twitter).

He highlighted AAP’s contributions to health, education, and infrastructure over the past decade and assured that the party would continue to serve as a constructive opposition.

“We came into politics to serve people, not for power. We will continue working for Delhiites,” Kejriwal added.

PM Modi Attacks AAP, Congress

During his victory speech, PM Modi criticized AAP and Congress, calling their governance a “disaster” for Delhi.

“Delhi is now free from ‘AAP-da’ (a wordplay on AAP and ‘apda,’ meaning disaster). People have rejected shortcut politics and false promises,” Modi said.

He also took a jab at Congress, calling it a “parasite” that harms its allies. Congress, which once ruled Delhi for 15 years, failed to win a single seat in this election.

“For six straight elections, Congress has scored zero in Delhi. Their decline is inevitable,” Modi added.

The Purvanchali Factor and BJP’s Winning Strategy

PM Modi thanked Purvanchali voters, a crucial demographic in Delhi, for their support.

“As an MP from Purvanchal, I deeply appreciate the love and trust of Purvanchali voters. This victory is for every Delhiite who dreams of a developed and vibrant capital,” he said.

What’s Next for Delhi?

This election result marks a huge political shift in Delhi, bringing an end to AAP’s decade-long rule and restoring BJP’s power after nearly three decades.

With BJP set to take charge, all eyes will be on the party to deliver on its promises and drive Delhi towards progress and stability.
