
India Hosts First-Ever Conference for Women Peacekeepers from the Global South
New Delhi, February 24, 2025 – In a historic initiative, India is hosting the first-ever Conference for Women Peacekeepers on February 24-25, 2025, in New Delhi. The event, themed “Women in Peacekeeping: A Global South Perspective,” aims to enhance the participation and leadership of women in United Nations (UN) peacekeeping operations.
Organized by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and the Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping (CUNPK), the conference brings together women peacekeepers from 35 Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs). The event marks a significant step toward strengthening regional cooperation and gender inclusivity in global peacekeeping efforts.

India has long been one of the largest and most committed contributors to UN peacekeeping operations. According to the Ministry of Defence, Indian forces have served in 49 out of 71 UN missions, showcasing exceptional dedication and resilience in some of the world’s most challenging conflict zones.
To date, over 200,000 Indian personnel have been deployed under the UN flag, playing a critical role in global stability and humanitarian assistance. The role of Indian women peacekeepers has been particularly impactful, as they have contributed to building trust with local communities, supporting humanitarian efforts, and promoting inclusive peacekeeping measures.
