Jaigaon, GST More, 21st September 2024:

In an effort to boost eco-tourism and raise road safety awareness, the Alipurduar District Administration welcomed a cycle rally today. The event, featuring 11 international cyclists, originally began in Paro, Bhutan, with its final destination set for Kalimpong. As the cyclists passed through Alipurduar district, they were welcomed at GST More by District Magistrate & Collector Vimala Ranganathan, IAS, Superintendent of Police Y. Raghuvamshi, IPS, JDA Chairman Ganga Prasad Sharma, and other district officials, who presided over the welcome ceremony.

SP Alipurduar, district officials, and cycling enthusiasts from Jaigaon also joined the rally and cycled approximately 10 kilometers from GST More to Hasimara.

The cyclists then continued along their scenic route, passing through Jaigaon and key tourist destinations such as Madarihat/Jaldapara and Chalsa/Lataguri. The rally’s reception in Jaigaon was organized in collaboration with the Jaigaon Traveller’s Welfare Association (JTWA) and the North Eastern Himalaya Association of Tour Operators (NEHATO), with both organizations providing refreshments and necessary support for the participants.

This event highlighted the region’s cultural heritage, natural beauty, and adventure tourism potential, with district officials emphasizing the importance of responsible riding while exploring Alipurduar’s landscape. The rally also aimed to support Dr. Graham’s Homes in Kalimpong, further raising awareness for both tourism and social causes.
